just see election 2016? ann did rubio win? good morning, everyone. there were two campaign speeches last night. president obama, senator rubio two divisions of america, redistribution or growth. two economic policies, the government, free enterprise. here is how it stacked up. the president wants more government. he wants more government spending. on the list, universal pre-school, 50 billion dollars worth of road and bridge building, a green energy security trust fund. he said we could grow through government action and it will not raise the deficit one dime senator rubio responded with the exact opposite. free enterprise would result in prosperity for everyone and the senator, addressing president, i don't oppose your plan because i want to protect the rich. i oppose your plan because i want to protect my neighbors. election 2016 began last night. -off period between the two sides, neil. neil: rich edson, the pressure on marco rubio tonight with the republican response, your thoughts? >> absolute pressure. someone who is on track to at least make a bid to be president in 2016 or run for president in 2016. the last few responses that we've seen from republicans, certainly mixed reviews. governor bobby jindal of louisiana, his performance was mostly disappointment to a number of republicans out there. many who saw him as someone who might be a candidate in 2012 to challenge president obama. he is on the national stage. he has been on the national stage before. got very good reviews of a speech he delivered at the republican national convention in august in tampa. so the expectation here is fairly high for marco rubio as someone who is seen, because of his background, because of his makeup, because of his energy, because of the places that in politics have taken him thus far and he is only in his early 40s, that this is someone who is here to shine for republicans. who will be the standard-bearer of the party going forward.

in the past couple years, the marco rubio will be delivering the remarks after the president, the republican side of things. he is a very smart guy but i would think if he was really inventive he might go back to a report issued by the president of the united states. this report, the president's plan for economic growth was issued in 2011, september. he talks about the principles for tax reform. this is the president talking. he says, lower tax rates. a little steve forbesish. the tax system should be simplified and work for all americans with lower individual and corporate tax rates and fewer brackets. this is the president talking. why doesn't marco rubio put this up and say, mr. president, we're with you, 100%. we agree what you said back in 2011? >> he might do so. actually the most we could hope from this president is doing something, david, in terms of reducing corporate tax rates. everyone now knows, even democrats, it is the highest in the developed world. if you put something constructive there, that would be a real blockbuster but i don't see any scenes of it. maybe he will sure ri
